SHINING STARS AWARD CATEGORIES

To enter, click the provided link in the list below. Complete the required information about the business/event you are nominating (self-nominations are welcome), along with the corresponding questions. You will receive an e-mail to confirm receipt of your entry upon form submission. If you are nominating a business or individual, once your information has been received by us, a complete nomination package and instructions will be sent out to the nominee.

Promotion & Marketing Awards (3 awards) - NEW

This award recognizes creative and innovative marketing campaigns that have had a significant impact on their business and tourism development in the community. Please indicate which categories you are applying for:

  • Brand Identity / Application - NEW
    This award reflects creative, memorable, meaningful and consistent identity. The submission should include elements such as logo, tagline, and brand promise, as well as guidelines / policies for ensuring consistent implementation and application of brand identity. Submission should also show examples of brand being applied across multiple media / channels (both informational and promotional / advertisements) to demonstrate consistency of application.
    • How do you keep this site/media/brand current and up to date?
    • What is your electronic strategy?
    • How will this communication affect your area of business?
    • What are the results?
  • Digital Media - NEW
    (website, microsite, social media, e-communications tools such as e-bulletins and e-newsletters) If applicable in your abstracts for this category, please provide the exact URL and a printout of your homepage (where applicable), as well as answers to the following;
    • How do you keep this site/media current and up to date?
    • What is your electronic strategy?
    • How will this digital communication affect your area of business?
    • What are the results?
  • Advertising - NEW
    Please note that the primary purpose of submissions in this category should be advertising and promotion (as opposed to strictly informational). Please submit either a single published ad or a series of themed published ads promoting/marketing attractions, events and or services.

Festival, Event or Tournament Award (2 awards)

This award recognizes a community festival, event or tournament that has played a significant role in attracting out-of-town visitors to our community. Preference will be given to efforts that also promote the area to others outside of Brantford and area. Please include the number of visitors reached through marketing efforts and attendance figures. If this is an annual, recurring event, please indicate any increase in attendance and what that was attributed to.

  • Audience Draw of 1000 people or less
    • Purpose of the event, festival or tournament.
    • Objectives: what you wanted to accomplish (should be measureable).
    • Target Audience(s): give demographics.
    • Challenges: any obstacles prior to, during or after the festival, event or campaign.
    • Results: list successes relating back to your objectives.
  • Audience Draw of more than 1000 people
    • Purpose of the event, festival or tournament.
    • Objectives: what you wanted to accomplish (should be measureable).
    • Target Audience(s): give demographics.
    • Challenges: any obstacles prior to, during or after the festival, event or campaign.
    • Results: list successes relating back to your objectives.

Environmental Sustainability Award (1 award)

This award is presented to a business, organization, event or attraction that has demonstrated and promoted innovative efforts to prevent or reduce the environmental impacts of their operations. These efforts work to enhance the experience to visitors and residents in our community.

  • Environmental Sustainability Award
    • Purpose: how did you prevent or reduce the environmental impacts of your operations?
    • Objectives: what you wanted to accomplish.
    • Target Audience(s): give demographics.
    • Challenges: any obstacles encountered through your efforts?
    • Results: list successes relating back to your objectives.

Rising Star Award (1 award)

This award is presented to a newly established (no more than three consecutive years) tourism business, event, or association that has positively impacted tourism and demonstrates potential to generate and/or service future tourism and economic growth.

  • Rising Star Award
    • Purpose: how did the business, event or association impact tourism?
    • Objectives: what you wanted to accomplish.
    • Target Audience(s): give demographics.
    • Challenges: any obstacles encountered to inhibit an impact on tourism?
    • Results: list successes relating back to your objectives.

Arts Award (1 award) - NEW

This award recognizes an individual or organization that has made an exceptional contribution to the development, celebration or promotion of the arts in Brantford and surrounding areas.

  • Arts Award - NEW
    • Purpose: how did this effort contribute to the development or enhancement of the arts?
    • Objectives: what was accomplished? (i.e. an exhibit, a publication, an event, a program).
    • Target Audience(s): who participated in or benefitted from this initiative?
    • Challenges: what makes this effort ‘exceptional’? What obstacles were overcome?
    • Impact: list successes or outcomes related to the objectives.

History & Heritage Award (1 award) - NEW

This award recognizes an individual, group or organization that has made an outstanding contribution to the preservation and celebration of Brantford’s natural, built and cultural heritage and raised awareness of local history in the community.

  • History & Heritage Award - NEW
    • Purpose: how did this effort contribute to the preservation or celebration of local heritage?
    • Objectives: what was accomplished? (i.e. a publication, a display).
    • Target Audience(s): who participated in or benefitted from this initiative?
    • Challenges: what makes this effort ‘exceptional’? What obstacles were overcome?
    • Impact: list successes or outcomes related to the objectives.

Stars of the Grand: Brantford – Exceptional Customer Service Award (1 award)

This award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated excellence in customer service by going above and beyond to provide a unique and memorable visitor experience. This individual has made an extraordinary effort to provide more than is expected to the visitors who come to Brantford. Tourism Innovator Award (1 award)

This award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated leadership qualities in the community through volunteerism, employment and/or entrepreneurship. He/she is recognized for their innovativeness and creativity as a local ambassador for enhancing tourism in Brantford and area.
